Tooty

Tooty is a very small mastodon post-only CLI tool I developed. I made it because I wanted a way to occasionally share things without getting sucked into the distractive maelstrom of social media.

Usage

You put your toots into a file called example.txt which should be written according to this loose schema that is parsed on running tooty:

[+ reply: <replyid>]
[+ mode: private, unlisted, public]
[+ media: ./path-to-image.png;img description]

main text of post, blabla
many lines

etc
#hashtagYouWant

--- post separator

another post

The fields at the top in brackets [] are optional, and the brackets are there to show the optionality - don’t include them. These are tooty’s header fields. If you for example write at the top of example.txt:

+ media: ~/images/buns.jpg;a tray of newly-baked cinnamon buns

look at my gorgeous buns!

#theGalley

Then that adds an image attachment to the post.

Source code

The source code is simple and slapdash but surfices for my own purposes:

By now it is getting old! Instead of running my code, you might instead want to run this fork by a friend:
